Saved to Memory

A key to read my artworks

In the context of my art, I challenge the idea of coherent development as a naive illusion that viewers often hold. When I engage in analytical questioning, I attempt to uncover meaning among moments that are fundamentally unrelated. This approach rejects the simple logic of before and after, challenging the notion that a single, unified theme can be developed consistently throughout a body of work.

These moments arise from distinct experiences, emotions, and creative impulses, inherently diverse and independent from one another. Reflected in a multitude of themes and ideas, they do not necessarily connect in a linear or unified manner.

Interpretation is subjective and varies widely among viewers, as each one of us brings our own background, emotions, and understanding, leading to diverse and sometimes conflicting meanings. We are subjectively diverse, and our experiences highlight the fragmented nature of meaning, where no single, overarching narrative or theme can encompass the entirety of my work. Yet, we exist in the same space, relatively.

This approach aligns with contemporary values, embracing complexity, ambiguity, and multiplicity, simultaneously rejecting and accepting the notion of a singular, cohesive meaning. Employing the rhetorical figure of parataxis, my work juxtaposes distinct elements side by side without subordinating one to another. This technique underscores the fragmentation and independence of each moment, emphasizing the diversity and richness of meaning that arises from their coexistence.

Rotating Paintings

Prop& Nihil, Galleria 42 Contemporaneo, Modena / Year: 2013

Within Rotating Painting series, I challenge the conventional expectation of a static viewing experience, presenting an invitation to viewers to manipulate the artwork itself. Each piece is designed to be interactive, allowing you to rotate the canvas and explore the art from multiple angles. This dynamic interactivity underscores the fluidity and multiplicity of viewpoints, emphasizing that life, much like art, is perceived differently from various perspectives.

With no predetermined ‘up’ or ‘down’, each rotation offers a fresh interpretation, a novel experience. This approach deconstructs the naive illusion of a linear narrative within art, encouraging the viewer to uncover meanings in configurations that are fundamentally unrelated. As you adjust the painting, new compositions emerge, reflecting a rejection of the simple logic of before and after. These moments of interaction do not necessarily cohere into a unified theme but exist as distinct experiences and emotional expressions.

Interpretation thus becomes a subjective endeavor, varying widely among viewers. Each individual brings their own background, emotions, and interpretations to the artwork, leading to a rich tapestry of meanings—sometimes harmonious, sometimes conflicting.
